Today I turn to all the children who like to spend in the kitchen around mom. In theses current difficult times when children are locked up at home, we can offer them a little variety and creativity. An easy and very tasty cookie recipe that any child can prepare and any mom can easily bake in the oven. For the decoration, you can let loose your imagination and dive into the spirit of Christmas.

Of course, baked and cut gingerbread houses are now sold almost everywhere and they only need to be decorated, but I suggest that the children make their own cookies to feel their aroma and be proud of their work. I think baking them adds so much fun to the whole process.

Today my little girl, Ani, will show you her recipe for her Christmas houses. The recipe is extremely easy, but I suggest you help your child with the baking. From this dough, Ani made two houses and one batch of cookies.

Ingredients

  • 130 g brown sugar
  • 250 g honey
  • 1 egg
  • 100 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 500 g flour, sifted
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp chopped dried orange peels
  • 1 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven at 340°F.
  • In a bowl, mix the brown sugar and the honey. Heat them up in the microwave. Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix the sifted flour together with the salt, the baking powder, the baking soda, the orange peel and the ginger.
  • Pour the liquid mixture in a big bowl. Add the butter and stir. Afterwards add the egg. Put in the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon. The mixture is sticky but don’t worry, that is how it is supposed to be.
  • Wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator for a few hours.
  • Divide the dough in two equal parts and leave one part in the refrigerator.
  • Roll the dough on a surface sprinkled with powdered sugar.
  • Make templates for the houses in advance.
  • Cut them out and place them on the rolled out dough.
  • Pictured above are our templates.
  • You can print them.
  • Cut and bake for about 8-10 minutes.
  • For the decoration, Ani uses royal icing, which I had prepared in advance. The recipe can be found here.
