This is a great appetizer for Christmas. It’s very tasty and fragrant. It looks amazing and is very easy to prepare. The filling consists of spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella and parmesan.

It is easy to serve for many people, everyone can easily break off a piece and enjoy the taste. After cutting out the Christmas tree, you can make snacks or something sweet with the rest of the dough. You can put chocolate or jam and make dessert.

Christmas Tree Puff Pastry

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry 2 x 900 g
  • 1 cup mozzarella
  • 1 cup cheddar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp milk
  • ¼ tsp sesame seeds

Filling

  • 250 g cream cheese
  • 1 cup frozen spinach, defrosted, drained and finely chopped
  • ¼ cup parmesan
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sour cream

Instructions

Filling

  • In a large bowl, stir the cream cheese, spinach, parmesan, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic and sour cream until evenly combined.

Assembly

  • Preheat the oven at 375°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unroll the pastry sheet onto a baking tray and use a pizza cutter or knife to cut a Christmas tree shape into the dough. Reserve the leftovers from the dough in another baking tray. You can use the leftover dough to cut out a star which you can put at the top of the tree. Spread cream cheese mixture on bottom layer. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar and then top with the second pastry sheet.
  • Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut 1,5-2 cm thick “branches” on either side of the tree and be careful to leave 2-3 cm section in the center.
  • Gently lift and twist each “branch” twice.
  • In a small bowl stir together an egg yolk with the milk. Brush the mixture all over the tree and the star.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds only over the star and bake until golden, for around 30 minutes.
